Resume Tips

Don't be intimidated ... here are some ideas ...

A resume makes a FIRST IMPRESSION BEFORE ANYONE SEES YOU! Take advantage of these helpful hints we've gathered.

  • Set your page layout for wide left and right margins, about 1.5 inches each.
  • BOLD your name. Address and phone number should be in normal type. Everything in heading should be centered.
  • Do not abbreviate state, street, avenue, etc. Resumes are formal documents.
  • Balance blank space and text. Paragraphs that are too long cause the reader to skip over them.
  • Use high quality paper in light colors or white. DO NOT use neon or bright colors.
  • If you are making copies at a print shop, don't use the "public" copiers. Have them run professionally by the shop.
Have you got 'Writer's Block'? Here are some keywords for personal traits that can help stimulate your writing:

  • Customer oriented
  • Self-managing
  • Team player
  • Ability to interface well with all levels of management and personnel
  • Ability to implement
  • Results oriented
  • Industrious
books
Keep in mind when developing your resume ... A resume is a summary of your skills and experience. It is intended to highlight your accomplishments. It is not meant to be a book! Keep it to one page whenever possible.
